Santa comes to Oatley
Santa took time off his busy schedule on Christmas Eve 2008 and visited Oatley children in a red fire engine. Santa handed out lollies to the young
ones and asked them what they wanted for Christmas. Santa can be seen here with his helpers from Oatley Lions Club.
About Oatley Lions Club
• Oatley Lions Club is located in the southern suburbs of Sydney, the home of the 2000 Olympics.
• Membership is open to both men and women who are interested in serving the community.
• The members of the Club regularly organise fund-raising projects to finance local community projects.
• As Lions is an international organisation, we also provide support for overseas projects.
• Our largest activity is the Oatley Village Festival and this is held on the 3rd Saturday of October each Year
Over the past 5 years, the Oatley Lions have been able to put in excess of $170,000 back into the community with the aid of
those that support our Music in the Park, The Oatley Festival, BBQs and sausage sizzles, raffles, trivia nights and all of the other activities we are involved in.
Below is the distributions of the funds we have raised. We would like to thank our supporters and volunteers for their efforts as the
$170,000 is also a reflection of their sense of community.

History
Lions Clubs were first formed in USA in 1917 by the founder of Lions, Mr Melvyn Jones. The first Lions Club in Australia was formed at
Lismore in 1947 with subsequent clubs being formed rapidly. One of the first Sydney based clubs, was the Lions Club of Hurstville which
was the 20th Australian club formed which happened in 1953. Being based in the southern suburbs of Sydney, Hurstville Club spawned
many new clubs in this area, as well as the wider Sydney metropolitan basin.
The Lions Club of Oatley was chartered in March 1977 with 20 members and with this we became the 1076th club in Australia. We were chartered with the help of our nearby brothers at the Lions Club of Lugarno.
In the last quarter century we have maintained a strong membership. Our members is strong and we have almost equal numbers of men and women. Today Oatley Lions is one of more than 80 clubs in Sydney (District 210N5 which includes most of Sydney, Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island) which in total has approximately 2000 members. Meetings
We meet twice a month.
On the 2nd Tuesday of every month we hold a board meeting. Members usually gather at 7:00pm for a 7:15pm meeting, and even though it is a board meeting, all members are encouraged to attend and participate in general discussion.
On the 4th Tuesday of every month we hold a dinner meeting and a Guest Speaker will be invited to talk on any number of topics. From time to time a theme, rather than a guest speaker is in order, such as a St Patricks Day theme for our February dinner meeting. The dinner meeting is typically 7:00pm for a 7:30 start and both meetings are held at the Oatley RSL Community Club, 23 Letitia Street, Oatley.
Guest and visitors are welcome at our dinner meetings and many guests have gone on to become members. An open invitation is extended at this point for all visitors and guests to attend our regular dinner meetings. At the end of each financial year, typically the last or second last Saturday in June, we hold a changeover dinner where the outgoing board and office holders are awarded for the tasks they have undertaken and the incoming board and officebearers are presented. This dinner is well supported entertaining night is enjoyed by the 90 to 100 people that attend.
